Arsenal have shown defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles the door as they prepare to sell him – but Mikel Arteta could also send four other stars the same way.

The Spaniard is preparing for a major overhaul in the summer transfer window as he prepares for the 2020/21 campaign.

It will reportedly see stars such as Philippe Coutinho and Willian arrive while Gabriel Magalhaes could be swooped from under Manchester United’s noses.

One star expected to be making way for them, though, is Ainsley Maitland-Niles as the full-back was told he would be made available on the transfer window.

But the Gunners boss is unlikely to finish there as four more north London players could follow the Englishman out the door.

Top of the list is expected to be midfielder Mesut Ozil, who has suffered a downward spiral over the last two seasons at the Emirates.

The 31-year-old has failed to make a single appearance since the resumption of football while his refusal to take a pay cut made the Arsenal star unpopular.

But the biggest attraction of selling the German to Arteta will be the absence of his wage packet, currently valued at £350,000 per week.

With the arrival of Willian for £100,000 a week and Coutinho, it would give the boss the flexibility he needs to attract big names to north London.

Another star who appears to have ruled himself out of the Spaniard’s line-up is Matteo Guendouzi.

Reports of tussles in training as well as snubbing the club’s FA Cup final win over Chelsea suggest there is no turning back.

While regarded as a talented player by Unai Emery, the midfielder’s absence would keep the mood at London Colney sweet in preseason.

Gunners fans are already getting excited at the prospect of a front three featuring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Willian.

But it could mean the end for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has enjoyed a profitable loan spell at Roma with nine goals.

With the Serie A side keen to keep hold of the 31-year-old, it could be the kindest way to move on the forward as they are set to be inundated with goalscoring options.

One area where Arteta has seen vast improvement is the defence and is getting a boost through the arrival of William Saliba.

And this could spark another defensive exit with Mustafi in his fourth season at the club.

The German, though, regularly gets called out by fans for his errors in games, leading to demands from the Spaniard for defensive solidity.

While their pursuit of Lille defender Magalhaes could be the move that send the 28-year-old out the door.
